MOAS saves lives every day, but we can't do it without your help.

The 6th Annual Bark & Wine
August 17, 2019 ~ 6-10pm
at the Historic Smithonia Farm

Join us for MOAS' signature fundraiser with live music from local Athens’ artist Nathan Sheppard, heavy hors d'oeuvres provided by Carrabba’s Italian Grill of Athens, dessert provided by Mama's Boy, raffles, and live and silent auctions featuring approximately 100 items! All proceeds go directly back to the care of our shelter animals and help save our neediest animals.

Tickets are $35 in advance or $45 at the door. Bark & Wine T-shirts will be available for pre-order soon, and a limited number will be available for sale at the event. View our Bark & Wine event page for full details, including a complete list of donated items with more being added daily.

Many thanks to this year's Diamond Level Sponsors Boutier Winery & Inn, Carrabba’s Italian Grill of Athens, Happy Tails Playhouse, The Historic Smithonia Farm, and Mama's Boy for making this truly life-saving event possible!

Apply Now for a Free Spay or Neuter from the Bissell Pet Foundation!

We are proud to announce that our shelter was chosen out of hundreds of applications from across the nation to receive a $23,000 spay/neuter grant from the Bissell Pet Foundation. This generous grant will enable us to offer 800 free spays and neuters for the residents of Madison and Oglethorpe counties next year to individuals who might not otherwise be able to afford to alter their animals.

Staff have already begun reviewing applications and scheduling surgeries. Preference will be given to low-income citizens first. The grant is only open to residents of Madison and Oglethorpe counties. Please follow the link below to learn more about the grant or fill out the application online. You can also stop by the shelter for an application. For additional information you may call the shelter at 706-795-2868, Wednesday - Sunday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Working together, we all can make a difference.

Ultimately, the most important thing our shelter animals need is a home. We have dogs and cats of all ages and sizes just waiting to go home with you. Come find your new best friend at MOAS!

Fostering is one of the easiest ways to save lives. Our shelter physically can't hold every animal that comes to us and some animals need time in a foster home to recover from injury or illnesses. By taking an animal in temporarily you give them a second chance at life that they might not otherwise get.

Our animals need your financial support to assist in emergency medical treatment as well as basic shelter needs. Our fully donor-supported Guardian Angel Fund enables us to help when animals come in with significant injuries or test positive heartworms and other diseases.

We can't do everything that we need to do without the help of our volunteers. We rely on them to help us with socialization and exercise for our pets, special events, vaccine clinics, off-site adoption events, and more. Whatever your schedule is, there's a way for you to get involved!

Spay & Neuter Your Pets to Save Lives

At MOAS, we love kittens and puppies as much as anyone does, but not when we have too many! Kitten and puppy season starts early in the year and floods the shelter with unwanted strays and unplanned litters well into fall. Many of these precious babies won't make it out of the shelter, especially given how vulnerable they are to illness and disease. Spay & Neuter your pets now to be part of the solution, not part of the problem!

Need help with stray animals? Contact our shelter for assistance. Just bringing us the babies without altering the parents does not fix the problem!

Dedicated to serving our community.

We hold regular events throughout the year to help us better serve our community. These include practical events like our low cost spay/neuter and rabies clinics as well as monthly off-site adoption events. You won't want to miss our top annual fundraisers like our Bark & Wine event in August and our annual Yard Sales in May & November. We also hold lots of fun holiday events like our Easter Egg Hunt for Pups, Howl’O’Ween, and Santa Paws. Be sure to check back regularly to see what events are coming up next. You can also sign up for our newsletter to be the first to hear about upcoming events.

Bring your pets to our monthly low-cost vaccine clinics on the third Sunday of every month from 11am-3pm.
