MOAS' COVID-19 Policy

EFFECTIVE UNTIL 04/20/2020 *may update without notice*

Out of extreme caution for our staff, and the general public, Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter is following recommendations for social distancing due to COVID-19. Please read the following to hear of the changes being made. It is important to us right now to maintain a safe environment and implement practices to protect the health of our community. We will not be accepting any walk-in visitors at this time and we will not allow volunteers back until after April 20th, although this is subject to change as new information comes available.

Our staff will continue to provide our animals with enrichment, daily care, and cleaning. We do not need any additional volunteers while we are closed, but we will post here if we do need extra help.

We will also be canceling or postponing community events and gatherings that are happening during this time period including our vaccine clinics, volunteer orientations, and the Fun Dog Show.

SURGERY PATIENTS:

(Updated 4/2/20)

Due to a shortage of medical supplies, along with a few other factors, we have had to make the hard decision of canceling/postponing our spay/neuter surgeries. Surgery scheduled between now and April 15th will be canceled and rescheduled for a later date. We will update again next week as we will know more. We would like to also be very considerate of the medical professionals and human patients who are currently in need of the same supplies.

ADOPTERS:

We will be doing adoptions by appointment only between the hours of 12PM and 4PM Wednesday- Sunday. If you are coming to meet an animal to adopt you can either call 706-795-2868 to set an appointment or email moaspets@gmail.com. If you send an adoption application or inquiry through Petfinder we will also call you to set up a meet and greet. OWNER SURRENDERS:

Our intake hours will remain the same, 12PM – 4PM Wednesday-Sunday. Owner surrenders are strongly encouraged to keep their animal, if at all possible, until after April 20th as our adoptions will slow down and the risk of euthanasia will increase. Please note that MOAS is not a no-kill shelter and in times of crisis we may become full. Owner surrenders must make an appointment to surrender the animal by calling 706-795-2868 or emailing moaspets@gmail.com. Our pet food pantry is open if affording food is a concern.

STRAY ANIMALS:

If you find a stray dog and can not locate the owner on your own and have to surrender it to the shelter please call to set up an intake appointment 706-795-2868. Our intake hours are 12PM-4PM Wednesday - Sunday. These are our normal intake hours and we cannot accept animals outside of these hours. Please know if you do not call ahead and the staff has no pending appointments they may leave early for the day.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
